The purpose of the Kit is to assist political science faculty at 2-year and 4-year institutions who are interested in developing or further developing Summer Bridge programs for students on their campus.
The Kit may consist of a Course Shell, a Welcome Video, template implementation calendar, template budget, and template program schedule of a full-day model.
In future years, as programs grow, we hope to include 1-day, 2-day, and 3-day modules. The Kit will be developed by a working group of faculty participants, with input from all participants.
Reflections and assessments of Summer Bridge 2021 pilots will be discussed at a Fall 2021 network meeting.
The budget proposes that approximately $1,000 be allocated to each institution in the region interested in implementing a Summer Bridge Program.
The goal is to develop an outline of a 1-day program agenda template that can be used to communicate to students and participants.
The goal is to develop at least 3 activity templates, such as an Ice Breaker, Networking With Peers, and Campus Scavenger Hunt.
The goal is to develop at least 3 workshop templates that focus on the knowledge, skills, and abilities students need to be a successful political science student.
The goal is to develop a panel template that can be used to organize a panel of speakers on a specific theme or topic useful to political science students.
The goal is to develop a budget template spreadsheet that clearly specifies the financial resources needed for a 1-day Summer Bridge Program.
The goal is to develop a request for support letter template that can be used by Summer Bridge organizers to solicit financial and in-kind support from internal and external supporters.
Canvas Learning Management System has been adopted by almost all California Community Colleges. A Canvas Course Shell will be created and available for download by faculty. The shell will feature a clear navigation, sequence of modules, and specific assignments, discussions, and quizzes that can be used to support the political science student community at your campus.
